Another fantastic instalment to this series, and I am so invested in these characters I really need book 3 now。 With Defend the Dawn the cast of characters and the world is expanded。 Along with Tessa and Corrick we have familiar faces too。 We are drawn deeper into the politics and see first hand the shaky hold King Harristan has on the throne。 And the rebellion though somewhat stalled has still not been fully quelled。 One of my absolute favourite parts is the relationship between the brothers (H Another fantastic instalment to this series, and I am so invested in these characters I really need book 3 now。 With Defend the Dawn the cast of characters and the world is expanded。 Along with Tessa and Corrick we have familiar faces too。 We are drawn deeper into the politics and see first hand the shaky hold King Harristan has on the throne。 And the rebellion though somewhat stalled has still not been fully quelled。 One of my absolute favourite parts is the relationship between the brothers (Harristan and Corrick) they have an amazing bond and Im hoping it always remains so! And of course the romance in this series is great and Im fully behind, the slow build up is one of my favourites!I am loving where the author has taken the story so far。 And I loved how new key characters were introduced。 You never quite know who you can trust, with loyalties tested and risk of betrayals strong is it any wonder! And of course the author writes morally grey characters so well, that you even question the motives of your favourite characters! This has not suffered for being the second book in the series at all。 The stakes are even higher, the story is more complex and I the most exciting part is I dont know what to expect next! Highly entertaining would recommend to all! 。。。more

3。75 starsI’ve waited for this book for so long!I really enjoyed it but in the end not much happened? It’s a middle book so that was to be expected。 Some secrets were revealed。 Tessa and Corrick had to face some harsh truths。 We have a new outlaw and I was very pleased by the addition。

This was such a great sequel! Even though most of the plot takes place on a ship with limited characters there is just so much going on。 There are secrets, fights, love stories, and tons of drama。 The author built so much tension into the story that towards the end I couldn't put it down。 I enjoyed the development of Corrick and Tessa's relationship as they learn to trust each other。 I liked how hot and cold this relationship was and it wasn't just automatic instalove。 I also liked the new chara This was such a great sequel! Just like Defy the Night, in Defend the Dawn, Brigid Kemmerer takes the reader on a whirlwind journey through a foreign land filled with complicated politics, beautiful princes, and a raging illness that threatens to destroy what little peace is left。 I want to keep this review spoiler-free, so I'll keep this review on the more vague side of things, but I will share a few things I absolutely adored about this book。 First, I like how romance is a part of the plot, but it's not the whole plot! I was nervous going into Defend the Dawn and boy did it superseded my hopes。 I thought the original book was good but not great and I’m happy to say the sequel is excellent。 Bridget Kemmerer does a fantastic job going deeper into these characters motivations and really helped show their progression。 I’m literally on the edge of my seat waiting for book 3! Thank you to #Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review

I had stupidly assumed this was a duology so was a little thrown as I hit the half way point & things were only getting deeper & more complex, entirely my fault & a wonderful position to be in when I realised it wasn't & that means there's more to come from Brigid Kemmerer 🥳This was a typical middle book in that it is bridging the way forwards, there are moments of drama & lots of great further character development, especially of the more secondary characters。 I loved it & it isn't a criticism I had stupidly assumed this was a duology so was a little thrown as I hit the half way point & things were only getting deeper & more complex, entirely my fault & a wonderful position to be in when I realised it wasn't & that means there's more to come from Brigid Kemmerer 🥳This was a typical middle book in that it is bridging the way forwards, there are moments of drama & lots of great further character development, especially of the more secondary characters。 I loved it & it isn't a criticism as there's enough action to keep you turning those pages & it's left me wanting more。 I'm really happy we got more King Harristan in this one & I love where his friendship with Quint appears to be headed。 Also Karri & Lochlan being back was brilliant as the focus moved beyond Tessa & Corrick, though they are still firmly at the centre of the story。 Rian is an interesting character & I'm sure there will more to come from him in the next book, which I need ASAP。 If you like YA fantasy you cannot go wrong with this series, I loved it 。。。more

Happy release day to Defend the Dawn, the second novel in the Defy the Night series。 Thank you Bloomsbury Publishing for gifting me an e-arc copy of this novel。 Wow, this novel ups the ante from the first books and it’s as strong as the first novel。 It is full of political intrigue, and heart pounding action。 This novel had me questioning my love for our beloved main characters, and which side I stood with。 There is turmoil and unrest within the country of Kandala, struggling to makes ends meet Happy release day to Defend the Dawn, the second novel in the Defy the Night series。 Thank you Bloomsbury Publishing for gifting me an e-arc copy of this novel。 Wow, this novel ups the ante from the first books and it’s as strong as the first novel。 It is full of political intrigue, and heart pounding action。 This novel had me questioning my love for our beloved main characters, and which side I stood with。 There is turmoil and unrest within the country of Kandala, struggling to makes ends meet and save people from the deadly disease that haunts the country。 With the threat of the revolution, the palace is forced to start negotiations will multiple palace officials and rebellion leaders。 With the threat of being overrun, a mysterious ship docks promising a trade agreement from with the one thing Kandala needs most。 But with the people of Kandala on the line, is it too good to be true? Is this stranger promising them salvation a friend or foe? I loved the expansion that was brought to the Defy The Night world。 Kemmerer did an excellent job combining in this new country like it was always there, and bringing further political unrest to the story。 Not only did we watch our characters grow, and expand outside of their current roles, we watched them take on new shores as they headed out to the high seas。 The only thing wrong with this novel is that I tricked myself into believing this was a duology and in reality it is going to be a series and it crushed my reality。 I did not expect the twist and turns this novel took。 They came out of know where and after revealed, I could see the small hints throughout both novels that had been pointing to these reveals。 Our character relationships are expanded and explored more in this novel and it melted my heart。 Getting flash back to Corrick and Harristan boyhood and their connection is everything I didn’t know I needed。 We get an understanding of their bond and how that bond turned into their roles today。 Watching them become their own person without one another was the character growth I didn’t realize we needed。 This is definitely an unforgettable sequel that kept me guessing the entire time。 There wasn’t one moment where I was bored and wondering when the action will return。 There are no moments to sit back and catch your breath as all the revelations and suspicions kept us going。 I’m greatly upset that we have no idea when the next novel in this series is coming out, because I need answers now。 。。。more

I think this book got a little bit of second book syndrome。 Overall I did enjoy it, I liked being back with Tessa and Corrick and Harristan。So in this book, we find out that a ship has sailed from Ostiary which previously was thought of as somewhere not able to be traveled to。 The captain of the ship Rian Blakemore says that his father had been sent over as a spy by former King Lucas years prior and is only returning now because Ostiary was in a war。 He wants to trade steel from Kandala for the I think this book got a little bit of second book syndrome。 Overall I did enjoy it, I liked being back with Tessa and Corrick and Harristan。So in this book, we find out that a ship has sailed from Ostiary which previously was thought of as somewhere not able to be traveled to。 The captain of the ship Rian Blakemore says that his father had been sent over as a spy by former King Lucas years prior and is only returning now because Ostiary was in a war。 He wants to trade steel from Kandala for the elusive moonflower he brought from Ostiary。 But no one knows if he can be trusted。 Corrick, Tessa and rebellion leader Lochlan along with 3 palace guards end up on a ship headed toward Ostiary to make trade agreements。So while I like Corrick's character, SO MUCH of this book was Corrick and Rian arguing like little boys。 It was so annoying。 They argued over Tessa, they argued over whether either of them could be trusted, they argued over the locked room on the ship。 They literally argued about everything every other sentence of the book。 That was really my only character issue。 Tessa was a little all over the place but I still like her。 Since we kind of have 2 storylines going on now, Corrick and Tessa leave Kandala, but we still need the Kandala POV so we have Harristan this time。 I actually liked the Harristan parts better than the Corrick/Tessa parts even though they were sparse。 There is only so much that can go on on the ship they are on for most of the book。The first large chunk, probably more than half, felt a little slow paced, but it was still interesting and I never found myself struggling through it (boy ego-fighting aside)。 The ending chunk though was so fast paced and interesting in both the Harristan and Corrick/Tessa parts。 That last chapter I totally saw coming but like can I have book 3 now?!Like I said, I think this book suffered a little from second book syndrome, but at the same time I think it led up really well to the third book 。 It explained a lot and set up for the double fight on both sides of the story。 I'm really excited to see what happens next!Thank you to Netgalley and Bloomsbury YA for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

This was one of my most anticipated releases this fall and it did NOT disappoint! I am LOVING this series and this sequel is everything that I hoped it would be。 The story picks up right where we left off, with the kingdom of Kandala still plagued by a sickness that is killing its citizens daily。 Corrick and Tessa are in negotiations for the extra moon flower petals that they were promised when a stranger from Ostriary shows up with a compelling offer that’s impossible to refuse。 They board a sh This was one of my most anticipated releases this fall and it did NOT disappoint! I am LOVING this series and this sequel is everything that I hoped it would be。 The story picks up right where we left off, with the kingdom of Kandala still plagued by a sickness that is killing its citizens daily。 Corrick and Tessa are in negotiations for the extra moon flower petals that they were promised when a stranger from Ostriary shows up with a compelling offer that’s impossible to refuse。 They board a ship with Captain Rian and a host of new characters that they aren’t sure if they can trust with the hopes that the answer to their problems waits for them across the sea。 After the fast paced first book I expected this one to slow down a little bit, but I should have known better。 Instead of the double crossing and uncertainty of the Kendala Court, we are now on a ship bound for Ostriary and no one is who they claim to be。 Tessa and Corrick are having relationship troubles and Rian, the dashing sea captain, seems to have his eye on Tessa。 I don’t usually like love triangles, but thanks to the dual POV we know exactly how Corrick and Tessa feel about each other。 I loved every twisty, shocking moment of this sequel! I was STRESSED because every second they spend on that ship feels like they’re hurtling towards disaster and I was on the edge of my seat the entire second half。 And Corrick! Ugh I love that man。 Sometimes I think he’s so misunderstood and then he’ll do or say something that makes me say “but is he though?!” haha Back in Kandala the fires of revolution are still burning, and we see new alliances forming while also meeting some new characters。 I loved being back in this world with all its suspense, betrayal and surprises。 That cliffhanger almost killed me and I am already looking forward to the next book。 If you like a YA Fantasy filled with engaging characters, witty banter, court politics and an adventure on the high seas, then you should preorder this one now before release day on 9/20! This shouldn’t be read as a standalone, though, so make sure you read Defy the Night first。 Thank you so much to Bloomsbury and Brigid Kemmerer for the gifted copy。 。。。more

After loving book 1 - Defy the Night so much, I'm not going to lie, I was so nervous - but once again Brigid did an amazing job of crafting a story that literally left me guessing the whole way through and gasping at the end。While this book was slower to get into the action, once it hit, it was impossible to put down! I loved Tessa and Corrick again - the parable angst that is going on as they try to work out their new roles and what it means for each other。 Tessa - wanting to be more than the g After loving book 1 - Defy the Night so much, I'm not going to lie, I was so nervous - but once again Brigid did an amazing job of crafting a story that literally left me guessing the whole way through and gasping at the end。While this book was slower to get into the action, once it hit, it was impossible to put down! I loved Tessa and Corrick again - the parable angst that is going on as they try to work out their new roles and what it means for each other。 Tessa - wanting to be more than the girl that allegedly warms Corrick's bed, and Corrick - wanting to me more than the cruel prince he is known to be。 Thrown in a mysterious sea caption and the freaking tension grips you right up until the very end! I loved the introduction of this new "team" of characters, the mysterious benefactor dropping coins off to the villagers, Quint (he's amazing), and I really could go on! There is a moment with Corrick and a little girl, that will just melt your heart! Ugh, I loved how Brigid slowly shows us and the people around him (other than Tessa), how soft and sweet he really is。 The romance is strong, the love is there and the conversations are real。What I loved about this book is that it kept me guessing until the very end, there were a couple things that I worked out - but the big twists - I had no freaking idea - I gasped out loud and put the book down - I was shocked - and I loved it so much! The ending is incredible and I cannot wait for book three! 。。。more

Firstly I’d like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC!! 😍😍I don’t even know where to start with how much I enjoyed Defend the Dawn!! 😍😍 I LOVED this book so much!! It’s so brilliant, I pretty much inhaled it as soon as I’ll picked it up ❤️❤️Defend the Dawn takes place as soon as Defy the Night finishes with Harristan, Corrick and Tessa trying to find some sort of peace between the rebels and those loyal to the royal quarter。 Talks aren’t going well at all and when a newcomer arrives Firstly I’d like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC!! 😍😍I don’t even know where to start with how much I enjoyed Defend the Dawn!! 😍😍 I LOVED this book so much!! (I’m totally gushing but it’s just so good!!) There’s so many new characters we meet as well。 Everyone on the ship has so much character, they’re totally loyal to Captain Blackmore who’s perfect and gorgeous of course。 I like that we have to separate plots, one on the ship with Tessa and Corrick and then we also stay in Kandala with Harristan, it gives us an insight into what Fox is doing 😏❤️The only thing I’m annoyed with is the ending and that’s because I have to wait for the next book 😅😭 If I could give this book 10 stars I would!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 。。。more
